Educational Liberty is best practiced at the local level, not the state level.
Wrong heroes model lying results and processes. State controlled, socialist models like in Massachusetts are too controlling, skew their results in the name of educational authority, and should not be the rainbow model Michiganders strive for.
Problems . . .
a. Michigan has its own heroes and culture. It is quite capable of developing its own goals and standards. We are not afraid of truth in our statistical results.
b. Michigan currently ranks 2nd to last in African American graduation rates. We rank 3rd to last in Hispanic graduation rates. It is not a funding issue. It is an administrative and fiscal flow problem. It is the disingenuous of the secular models fault. It is the lack of parental rights and educational choices being force fed to these Michigan minorities. It is leadership’s lack of vision.
c. Educational liberty assumes that some parents and students will choose a different path than the pre‐K through 12th grade offerings by local institutions. This is the parent’s responsibility. They are accountable for possible negative societal aspects of their students. The burden is upon them.
And Solutions . . .
*The state cannot interfere with homeschooling or private schooling choices. Where there is no public funding there is no state responsibility.
*All citizens fund public schooling through taxes. The tax burden should not carry extra ‐curricular offerings. Extras are the responsibility of the parents.
*Motivated students are the result of motivated parents. Parental costs for under-performing students should be explored.
